Future depends upon the present and present in turn depends upon the past. 과거의 모든 것은 남길 수 없습니다. We must be very clear in our minds as to which things of the past cannot be left. Past has the potential to inspire our thoughts and thus our actions. Everything of the past, which can inspire us positively should be embraced with clear deliberation. It would be our folly not to cling to such past, which has the capacity to inspire our thoughts. 이것이 바로 ‘역사’라는 주제가 지향하는 바이다.
When I say that all the past need not be forgotten, I intend to talk-What our nation is? 더 나아가서, 나는 우리의 생각에 영감을 줄 수 있는 잠재력을 가진 과거, 즉 보편적인 진실만을 말하는 과거만이 기억되어야 한다는 매우 진정한 인식에 대해 논의하고 싶습니다. 그것은 정말로 사실이다. Nationalism does not refer to different things for different people. 민족주의는 ‘인류’를 가리킨다. Since, ‘Justice’ is a major ingredient of ‘Humanity’, anything, which talks of injustice at national level can be termed as anti-national. Everybody will agree that we should have a clear cut definition of justice before calling anything as National or Anti-national. 간단히 말해서 ‘정의’라는 용어에 대해 생각해 봅시다. 비폭력은 ‘정의’라는 용어에 내재되어 있습니다. Violence is not hurting others but it is hurting others without a reasonable cause. Scolding of children on their doing an inappropriate work is not violence provided, it is done with a purpose of improving them.
우리나라는 정말 대단해요. The definitions propounded by seers of this country regarding humanity cannot be confined in time & place. 인류의 한 구성요소인 ‘정의’를 생각하는 것만으로도 애국심을 가질 수 있다면, 인류에게 인류애의 총체적 개념을 부여한 우리 민족을 자랑스러워하지 않겠습니까? If, we love humanity, we cannot remain without loving our country. We will have to love humanity, if we intend to take rebirths as humans. This is the primary condition for being eligible to be man again. 우리가 민족을 사랑하려면 과거를 알아야 합니다. Knowing includes feeling. Just knowing the past of our nation, theoretically, without the necessary feelings, can produce a very low level of love for the nation. Now, a major question-how can you know the cultural heritage of this country? When, I say we must know our past, then, I do not mean that we should know the history of this nation since, six-seven thousand years old only. We need to peek at least into the ideals, this nation lived for in the period of ‘Ram’. In modern period, we have amongst us a great book-English translation of the book ‘Satyarth Prakash’. Satyarth Prakash means enlightenment about truth. By going through this book, we can know the real cultural base of this nation. And, after reading it through rational and unbiased intellect, we cannot remain without loving our country.
